Director, Search & Evaluation
Help shape the future growth of Abacus Medicine Pharmaceuticals
Help shape the future growth of Abacus Medicine Pharmaceuticals
At Abacus Medicine Pharmaceuticals (AMP), we're building an ambitious pharmaceutical business with a clear growth agenda. As we continue to expand our portfolio and presence across Europe, we're looking for a Director, Search & Evaluation to identify, assess, and champion the opportunities that will define our next chapter.
This is a unique opportunity to join a growing organisation where you'll have the autonomy, visibility, and influence to make an immediate impact.
Working at the intersection of science, strategy, and commercial decision-making, you'll lead the assessment of novel pharmaceutical assets and business development opportunities across Europe. From early scouting and opportunity prioritisation through to due diligence and investment recommendations, you'll help determine where AMP invests its time, capital, and resources.
You'll work closely with senior leaders across Business Development & Licensing, Commercial, Medical, Regulatory, Finance, and Legal functions, shaping the future portfolio of the business while helping establish AMP as a preferred partner for innovators across the pharmaceutical landscape.
For someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and wants the freedom to build, influence, and shape strategy, this is an exceptional opportunity.
What you'll be doing
As Director, Search & Evaluation, you'll lead the front end of AMP's Business Development & Licensing funnel, ensuring the organisation focuses on the opportunities with the greatest strategic and commercial potential.
Lead and manage the Search & Evaluation process across therapeutic areas, ensuring systematic and high-quality assessment of new external opportunities.
Build and maintain a structured pipeline of opportunities through proactive outreach, conference networking, and partner engagement.
Lead scientific, clinical, commercial, and financial evaluation of novel pharmaceutical assets, coordinating cross-functional subject matter experts.
Own the commercial forecast and new product planning assessment for each opportunity: build and stress-test country-level European forecasts covering epidemiology, patient flow, treatment share, pricing, market access and reimbursement, launch sequencing and uptake, with explicit scenarios and key value drivers.
Define target product profiles and launch assumptions together with Commercial, Medical and Market Access, and translate them into peak sales, revenue ranges and P&L inputs for valuation and deal structuring.
Conduct integrated asset valuations (rNPV) and risk-adjusted opportunity assessments in close collaboration with Finance to support BD&L investment decisions, ensuring forecast assumptions are benchmarked against analogues and traceable through to deal terms.
Develop standardized evaluation frameworks and a common forecasting methodology, and ensure consistent documentation and decision-making processes.
Translate scientific, clinical, and commercial inputs into clear business recommendations and value propositions.
Lead cross-functional preparation for due diligence and ensure smooth collaboration with the Transactions team once an opportunity progresses.
Maintain active market intelligence across key therapeutic areas, competitor movements, and deal trends relevant to Abacus' strategy.
Build relationships with biotech, pharma, investors, and innovation networks to strengthen Abacus' reputation as a partner of choice.
Support the Global Head of BD&L in defining and refining search priorities, ensuring alignment with AMP's strategic focus and financial objectives.
Represent Abacus externally at conferences, partnering events, and in early-stage partner discussions.
What success looks like
Within your first 12 months, you will:
Establish yourself as a trusted advisor to the BD&L leadership team and senior stakeholders
Build a strong pipeline of strategically relevant opportunities
Deliver high-quality evaluations that drive investment decisions and portfolio growth
Create greater consistency and transparency in forecasting and opportunity assessment
Influence key licensing and acquisition discussions across the organisation
Help shape the future direction of AMP's portfolio and growth strategy
Most importantly, you'll create tangible business impact by helping AMP focus its investments on opportunities with the greatest potential for patients, partners, and the company.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a commercially minded, scientifically credible leader who combines strategic thinking with rigorous analysis and strong relationship-building capabilities.
We expect that you have:
A Master's degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Business, or a related field
10-15+ years of experience within pharmaceutical or biotech business development, licensing, search & evaluation, portfolio strategy, or commercial assessment
Significant experience evaluating pharmaceutical assets and business development opportunities
Strong expertise in commercial forecasting, new product planning, and opportunity assessment
Experience supporting or leading structured due diligence processes
Deep understanding of European pharmaceutical markets, commercialization pathways, pricing, reimbursement, and market access dynamics
Experience preparing investment recommendations for senior leadership teams or governance boards
Strong financial modelling and valuation capabilities, including forecasting, scenario analysis, and rNPV methodologies
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
It would be an advantage if you also have:
A PhD and/or MBA
Experience across both global and regional pharmaceutical organisations
Exposure to licensing, acquisitions, or broader corporate development activities
Strong industry network within biotech, pharma, venture, or innovation ecosystems
What we offer
This is a rare opportunity to join a highly ambitious organisation at a stage where you can genuinely influence its future direction.
You'll enjoy:
A high-impact role with direct influence on AMP's growth strategy
The autonomy to identify, shape, and champion new opportunities
Significant exposure to senior leadership and key decision-makers
The opportunity to help build and refine AMP's Search & Evaluation capabilities
The chance to work across science, commercial strategy, finance, and business development
A highly visible position where your recommendations influence investment decisions
International exposure and extensive engagement with industry partners across Europe
A collaborative and entrepreneurial culture where initiative is rewarded
Most importantly, you'll join at a point where there is real opportunity to leave your mark. This is not a role where you'll simply inherit established processes and maintain the status quo. You'll have the freedom to challenge assumptions, influence strategic priorities, and help build the capabilities that support AMP's long-term growth ambitions.
