EHS Manager (Environment, Health and Safety)
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager holds full EHS complience responsibily of the Hungarian Abacus Medicine Sites. This includes overseeing all operational health and safety activities as well as the development, implementation, and oversight of envirnmental health and safety policies within the organisation. This role ensures legal compliance, minimises risks in the workplace, and actively promotes a strong culture of safety throughout the business.
This role ensures full regulatory compliance and drives continuous improvement in EHS performance.
The EHS Manager is also a people manager, with one direct report, the Environmental Protection Team Lead.
Key Responsibilities
Make sure Abacus Medicine is fully compliant with EHS regulations of Hungary.
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work tailored to the organisation's needs.
Immediately banning any activities that pose a safety risk.
Thorough investigation of major incidents, including root cause analysis.
Lead emergency response planning, organise and facilitate drills, and oversee business continuity processes to ensure preparedness for various scenarios.
Monitoring and continuous improvement of EHS KPIs and metrics (including incident rate, audit findings, etc.)Prioritization of general tasks based on risk assessment (focusing on high-risk areas first to ensure quick action where most needed)
Conduct thorough workplace risk assessments and ensure that appropriate control measures are established and maintained to address identified hazards.
Plan and carry out regular health and safety audits and inspections, ensuring ongoing compliance and identifying areas for improvement.
Deliver and coordinate safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and induction programmes for both employees and contractors to promote awareness and safe working practices.
Maintain accurate records of safety activities, including inspection findings and regulatory documentation, ensuring all information is readily available and up to date.
Advise management on a range of specialist topics, including occupational health, ergonomics, fire safety, hazardous materials, and machine safeguarding.
Proactively promote a safety-first culture, influencing behaviours and raising safety standards across all levels of the organisation.
Conduct risk assessments and safety-walks for each job role, at all sites
Selecting of appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment (PPE) for specific positions, and regularly review their suitability and effectiveness.
Liaise with occupational health doctors and P&C OPS to ensure the safety evaluation of each position is thorough and up to date.
Take responsibility for ensuring that any new equipment introduced into the workplace is validated from an occupational safety perspective.

Team Leadership
Directly manage and develop the Environmental Protection Team Lead, providing strategic direction, coaching, and performance management
Provide functional oversight and strategic guidance to the Environmental team (5 employees)
Act as a senior EHS advisor to leadership and key stakeholders
What You shall bring
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety is preferred.
Professional certification is preferred (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA).
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role is required.
2 years experience leading a team, having lead a manager is a plus.
Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and industry best practices.
Professional business proficiency in both English and Hungarian.
